Sahasrara

7 th Chakra – Crown Chakra
Color: Purple, Violet, and White
Location: Starts at the top of the head and hovers just above it.
Mantra: Instead of chanting, intently listen to your breathing.

 

The crown chakra is the center of spirituality, divine wisdom, imagination, awareness, optimism, and connection to your higher self and the universe. This chakra affects the six energy systems below it, and practically your entire being. When in balance it provides feelings of calmness, joy, and deep peace about being right where you need to be. You readily see the beauty and divinity in all things. The crown chakra affects the health of our brains, and therefore our entire mental, physical, and spiritual health.

How to Balance the Crown Chakra                                                 
Sit in a quiet place and breathe in deeply. Imagine a glowing deep purple colored tube of light entering the top of your head. This tube transforms into light violet and then explodes into a brilliant white light. Imagine that it is coming from the power of the universe or as a higher power. When you breathe out, push out the sound ‘Ahhh’.As you continue this breathing imagine sending healing energy throughout your brain, descending throughout your entire nervous system, and then energizing every atom of your body. All the stress leaves your body and you become lighter and lighter. You feel a sense of pure joy and oneness with the power of the universe or God. Any pain you may have had is ascending through this tube of light.

How an Unbalanced Crown Chakra Manifests in the Body 
Psychological manifestations can be depression, confusion, loss of faith, mental disconnection, dementia, seizures, and schizophrenia. Physical manifestations can be any kind of pain, light sensitivity, headaches, dementia, autoimmune disorders, and neurological disorders.

Signs of an Overactive Crown Chakra
A person can lack good judgment, be unable to focus, feel mentally overwhelmed, be overly analytical, and have mental fog.

Signs of an Underactive Crown Chakra
Rigid, inflexible thinking, fearful of the future, lack of intuition, and an inability to self-reflect. A blocked crown chakra can lead to depression and nervous system disorders and feelings of being lost and incomplete.

 


 

Ajna

6th Chakra -Third Eye Chakra
Color Indigo
Location: located above the center of your eye
Mantra‘: Om’ or ‘Aum’ pronounced ‘Ahhuummm’ ‘Thoh’pronounced powerful mantra that activates the pineal gland which in turn activates psychic ability.

 

 

The third eye is the energy center in our body responsible for reality, perception, wisdom, manifesting, and psychic ability. It is our sixth sense and coincidently our 6th chakra. 
Considered part of the brain, it can be made more powerful through meditation, yoga, and other spiritual practices. The third eye interacts with the rational mind and deepens our intuitive insight to see beyond the veil of illusion that is called “Maya.” It can open a portal leading to the inner realms of higher consciousness. When your Third Eye is balanced it increases intellect, memory, intuition and enables you to be more mindful, to fully live in the present moment, and to open your mind to deeper understanding and visualization. 

 

How an Unbalanced Third Eye Chakra Manifests in the Body                      
Those with an unbalanced third eye will experience headaches, dizziness, and eye problems. Emotional imbalances include being stuck in life patterns, disillusionment, suffering from confusion, disconnection from reality, and not being sure what is real. Disconnected from a higher power. 

How to Balance the Third Eye Chakra
Sit quietly and take a few deep breaths. Intone the Bija mantra “OM” sound or an alternative can be the more ancient ‘Thoh’ (toe) sound. Tune into this vibration intently and really feel it in your body. Imagine a deep indigo blue wheel of light radiating from the center of your forehead, sending healing and balancing energy to your eyes, ears, and brain. 

Imagine the very center of your brain where the pineal gland resides, lighting up with Indigo. Imagine going out of your body and opening a gateway which leads to the inner realms of your consciousness. 


Signs of an Overactive Third Eye Chakra 
A person tends to overthink things and have mental fog. It may cause an overindulgence in your imagination and excessive daydreaming. When the third eye chakra is overactive, you may feel overwhelmed and mentally exhausted. You may become overly analytical, indecisive,  judgemental, and be lacking clarity.

Signs of an Underactive Third Eye Chakra 
A person can be rigid, inflexible, lacking in intuition, and become unable to self-reflect. It can negatively affect your ability to concentrate, process information, and keep cool under pressure. When the third eye chakra becomes underactive, it can often cause you to be fearful of the unknown.

 

Vishuddha

5th Chakra – Throat Chakra
Color: Blue
Location: The throat and neck area.
Mantra: on‘Ham’ pronounced ‘haaahm’

 

The throat chakra is the chakra of expression, helping you to understand, express your inner truth, and be creative. The throat chakra is the center of communication, not just speech, but also thought and telepathy. This is the gateway to spiritual healing. When the throat chakra is in balance, we speak, listen, and express ourselves openly and authentically. The throat chakra is the first of the three higher, more spiritual chakras.

 

 

How to Balance the Throat Chakra
Balance this chakra by sitting in a quiet place and taking deep cleansing breaths. 

  • If you have an underactive throat chakra, chant “I speak,” and chant the Bija mantra below.
  • If you have an overactive throat chakra just listen to music and don’t chant. 

As you do this call forth the blue energy of intention. Imagine it as a spinning blue wheel or lotus flower. 

Signs of an Overactive Throat Chakra 
This can manifest as interrupting others often, being overly loud, lying, gossiping, non-stop talking, and being verbally abusive. An overactive throat chakra can make a person critical, judgmental, and have a condescending attitude, and an inability to listen to others. It can lead you to become your own and others’ worst critic. You may experience struggles in your relationships because of the way you communicate.Physical problems include sinuses, sore throat, jaw pain-TMJ, voice loss, thyroid problems, teeth and gum problems, and ailments of the esophagus and tonsils.

Signs of an Underactive Throat Chakra
When your throat chakra is underactive it can contribute to feelings of insecurity, timidity, introversion, and disconnects you from your authentic self. When out of balance you tend to ignore your inner voice, feel afraid of expressing yourself, and have trouble listening to others. 

 

Anahata

4th Chakra – Heart Chakra
Color: Emerald Green
Location: the center of the chest.
Mantra: Meditation“Yam”. Pronounced Yaaahm

 

The fourth chakra instills the knowledge that the most powerful energy on earth is love. It is the operating system of the entire subtle body. It is the bridge that connects the fifth, sixth, and seventh chakras that are associated with intuition, spirituality, and consciousness. The heart is the mediator between body and spirit, directly determining their wellbeing. 

It grants us compassion, respect, affection, and the ability to forgive. It allows us to feel a child-like innocence and joy, and the ability to give unconditional love, and form strong, healthy relationships. 

 

 

How to Balance the Heart Chakra
Close your eyes, turn your attention inwardly, away from ego, and envision a glowing, emerald green wheel or lotus flower spinning at the center of your chest. Imagine becoming one with the universe.  Chant “I am open to love” or “I am filled with love,” and call forth a green glowing light emanating from the center of your being. Imagine the emerald green spinning as a lotus flower growing larger. Chant the Bija mantra below. 

How an Unbalanced Heart Chakra Manifests in the Body
An unbalanced heart chakra can cause pneumonia, asthma, breast problems, respiratory problems, upper back pain, shoulder and upper arm pain, and premature aging.

Signs of an Overactive Heart Chakra
Signs include codependency and poor boundaries. These people can be demanding, clingy, and overly sacrificing. They also tend to continually give to others, overexerting themselves with little regard for their wellbeing, and losing their sense of identity.

Manipura

3th Chakra – Solar Plexus
Chakra Color: Yellow
Location: The diaphragm the upper part of the belly, all the down to to the navel.
Mantra: Meditation ‘Ram’ – Pronounced ‘Raaahm’Second

 

The Solar Plexus is the center of vitality. It controls the entire energy balance in the body, strengthening and consolidating your overall health. This chakra is the core of your personality and identity.  
Allowing you to bloom into your authentic self, you will discover who you truly are. It is the source of your power — your warrior energy. It forms your deepest connections with willpower, self-discipline, and self-esteem. You will feel self-assured and easily make decisions and take action readily. The solar plexus chakra embodies your unlimited potential to transform thought or inertia into action. 

 

How to Balance the Solar Plexus Chakra
Balance this chakra by sitting in a quiet place or while doing the yoga poses below. Take in a few deep breaths. Chant “I intend” as you call forth the yellow energy of intention.  Alternate “I intend” with the Bija Mantra below. 

How an Unbalanced Solar Plexus Manifests in the Body
It can cause fatigue, overeating, excessive weight around the stomach, digestive, intestinal disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome, stomach ulcers, and indigestion. It can cause food allergies, eating disorders, poor metabolism, diabetes, hypoglycemia, and obesity. It also affects eczema, acne, and other stress-related skin conditions.

Signs of an Overactive Solar Plexus Chakra
It can cause a person to be controlling, overly critical, stubborn, angry, aggressive, and judgemental. 

Signs of an Underactive Solar Plexus Chakra
A person can feel a lack of purpose in life, feeling powerless, self-doubting, low self-esteem, and indecisive.

Signs of an Overactive Solar Plexus Chakra
It can cause a person to be controlling, overly critical, stubborn, angry, aggressive, and judgemental. 

Signs of an Underactive Solar Plexus Chakra

Svadhisthana

Location: located at the abdomen below the navel.

The energy of the sacral chakra is the power of partnerships, how we relate to others outside the family, the creative exploration of life and relationships, sexuality, and discovering the power of choice. 

It allows you to feel and experience life to its fullest, a feeling of abundance, confidence, emotional maturity, creativity, and ability to change. It promotes a healthy ego, healthy boundaries, intimate relationships, and sensuality.

 

How to Balance the Sacral Chakra
To balance the sacral chakra, either sit in a quiet place or do the yoga poses below. Take in a few deep breaths and chant “I enjoy life fully.” Visualize a glowing orange lotus flower blooming and growing.  Chant the Bija Mantra below. Strong emotions may arise during this process. Just accept them, send them love, thank them for their presence and the lessons they represent, and then release them. 

How an Unbalanced Sacral Chakra Manifests in the Body
It can cause sexual dysfunction, low libido, and blunted emotions. It also affects the reproductive organs, stomach, kidneys, bladder, gallbladder as well as the lower back.

Signs of an Overactive Sacral Chakra
A feeling of mania, overreacting, arrogance, aggression, anxiety, and thriving on conflict. It can cause addictive/compulsive behaviors, sexual addiction, and becoming overly dependent on others.

Signs of an Underactive Sacral Chakra
It can affect your overall well-being, causing fatigue. It can cause a lack of control ranging from uncertainty to an inability to cope with life’s changes. A person tends to be pessimistic and self-sabotaging. They can become emotionally detached, have low self-worth, lack of desire, insecurity, have addictive behaviors, lack of creativity, and authenticity.  Physical problems include lower back, kidney, urinary, bladder, and stomach disorders. It can also cause infertility, impotence or menstrual issues, and other reproductive problems. 


Muladhara

1st Chakra – Root Chakra
Color: Red
Location: the base of the spine near the tailbone and it extends up to just below the navel.
Mantra: ”‘Lam’ pronounced ‘laaahm’

 

 

The root chakra is at the base of the chakra system and lays the foundation for expansion in your life. The root chakra allows you to harness courage, resourcefulness and the will to live during challenging times. It helps us to feel safe and grounded. It’s the force behind decisions and actions. This chakra has the biggest impact on physical health. 

 

 

How to Balance the Root Chakra Sit in a quiet place or do this while doing the yoga poses listed below. Close your eyes, take in a few deep breaths and envision a red glowing wheel or lotus flower spinning at the base of your spine.  Chant “I live” and draw forth the root energy until a red wheel of energy appears in your mind’s eye. Chant the Bija Mantra below. Imagine this red wheel is circulating in a strong clear manner at the base of the spine. Imagine this wheel transforming into a glowing red lotus flower, blooming, and growing larger. 

How an Unbalanced Root Chakra Manifests in the Body
Physical problems include bladder and digestive issues, constipation, diarrhea, lower back, hip pain, sciatica, varicose veins, pelvic/groin/rectum problems, impotence, water retention, and problems with legs, knees, calves, ankles, and feet.

Signs of an Overactive Root Chakra
It can cause a person to be controlling, overly critical, stubborn, angry, aggressive, and judgemental. 

Signs of an Underactive Root Chakra
A person can feel fear, anxiety, worry, anger/rage, overthinking, inability to focus, fear of abandonment, depression, nightmares, and feel emotionally disconnected.
